Huawei Gets 'Green Signal' From Trump To Resume Trade In US

When Trump banned Huawei from the US, most tech enthusiasts must be worried as to what would happen to the second largest smartphone maker in the world. It seems like Huawei and the tech enthusiasts can now take a sigh of relief as the Chinese company can finally resume its business in the US.

President Donald Trump, during the G20 Summit, announced the good news for Huawei. Trump said, “U.S. companies can sell their equipment to Huawei. We’re talking about equipment where there’s no great national security problem with it,” according to Bloomberg.

“I said that’s O.K., that we will keep selling that product, these are the American companies that make these products. That’s very complex, by the way. I’ve agreed to allow them to continue to sell that product so that American companies will continue.”

While Trump seems to have given a green signal to Huawei in the US, the company is still a part of the Entity List and there is no official word on whether or not it can do business with Qualcomm and, more importantly, Google.

For those who have forgotten, Huawei recently got banned in the US. It was due to a trade war between China and the US, following which various American companies such as Google, Intel, Qualcomm, ARM Holdings, Vodafone, and many more broke ties with Huawei.

The possible lifting of the ban doesn’t come as a surprise. Last month, President Trump gave an unsatisfactory explanation of the Huawei ban and hinted that it could end soon. Huawei is currently on 90-day temporary license in the US which was issued immediately after the ban was announced.

Due to the whole fiasco, Huawei has been exploring various options of launching its own OS and it was even rumored to go for Aurora Sailflish fork OS.

If the ban is finally lifted, Huawei will soon be able to get back to normal and will no longer have to worry about producing its own OS. Still, the whole drama has opened doors to a whole bunch of issues. Such as the monopoly of a specific company in the smartphone market, and more importantly, the lack of promising alternatives.
