Bill Gates Quits Microsoft Board, Here’s What’s Next
On Friday, Microsoft announced that Bill Gates is stepping down from the board effectively from that day. In addition to that, Gates is also leaving the board of Berkshire Hathaway. It may come as no big surprise, but Gates took this decision to “dedicate more time to his philanthropic priorities.”Â
It isn’t the first time that Gates is stepping down from a position at his company. In 2000, he left his position as Microsoft’s CEO to focus more on Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Similarly, in 2008, Gates stepped down from his full-time executive position at Microsoft due to similar motivations.
However, even after leaving the company, Gates still kept working backstage to improve various Microsoft products; and that is something that’s not going to change even now.
Bill Gates himself made it pretty clear that he isn’t going away from the company. He will still serve the role of a “technology advisor” for the current CEO Satya Nadella, a position he took back in 2014 on Nadella’s request.
“With respect to Microsoft, stepping down from the board in no way means stepping away from the company,” said Gates. “Microsoft will always be an important part of my life’s work, and I will continue to be engaged with Satya and the technical leadership to help shape the vision and achieve the company’s ambitious goals.”
